The History of Marina Del Rey:

Just like the other city of Angels, Marina Del Rey has a rich and colorful history. Before it was developed as a small craft harbor, the place was a salt-marsh that was fed by fresh water from Ballona Creek. A member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors named Burton W. Chace referred to the area as mud flats. In the mid-19th century, Moye C.Wicks turned this Playa del Rey into a commercial port. In 1965, Marina Del Rey was finally formed. It cost approx $36.25 million for land, construction and initial operation to form the place.
